Genre – based literacy pedagogy at University
The aim of this presentation is to show the basic tenets of the Genre – based literacy pedagogy developed by the Sidney School and its application in reading comprehension courses at University. Besides, the presenter will highlight the importance of abstracts as useful organizational signals to anticipate, read and reformulate academic texts. My activity as a University professor for over thirty years made me reflect on the reading process of this text type.
María Susana González is a teacher of English, a B. A. and a teacher in Letters, and an M. A. in Discourse Analysis. Until 2021 she was a professor and a researcher at the School of Philosophy and Letters (U.B.A). At present, she teaches postgraduate seminars, she is ARTESOL president, and directs the ARTESOL ESP Journal.
